The specialization “ Pedagogy of social / social support and family support ” is a response to the growing demand in society for professional, substantive and practical help in the field of education, counseling and proper functioning of the family in everyday life.

The specialization “ Pedagogy of social / social support and family support ” is a proposal for people who, with their actions and skills, want to support the basic social unit, which is the family, and to prevent pathological phenomena.

Knowledge and competences

You will gain knowledge in the field of pedagogy, education, contemporary sociological and psychological phenomena related to family life; you will learn about family and guardianship law, the principles of family counseling, learn how to create and implement projects in the field of family support and preventive activities. You will also learn the working methods of a family specialist, social probation officer and family mediator. You will gain the ability to work with your family in a crisis, to communicate in a spirit of non-violent understanding and to effectively resolve conflict situations.

You will learn the rules of creating and implementing national and international projects dedicated to the family.

Due to the extensive cooperation of Collegium Balticum with institutions involved in supporting the family, you will be able to undergo valuable, substantive internships in institutions with which you may want to work after graduation.

Work for a graduate

A graduate of 1st degree pedagogy in the field of pedagogy of social / social support and family support will be prepared to work in governmental and non-governmental organizations supporting the family (such as: municipal family support centers, foundations), in family counseling centers, care and education, family-type facilities, shelters for victims of violence, adoption centers and other facilities supporting the family. The graduate will also be able to work as a social probation officer, family assistant or participant in governmental and non-governmental activities in the field of preventing pathology in the family.

The specialization “Senior Pedagogy and Elderly Care” is addressed to people interested in working with seniors, supporting the elderly in everyday life and carrying out tasks in the field of elderly care. If you are sensitive to the needs of older people and want to contribute to building a new culture of aging in our society – this specialization is the best proposition for you.

Knowledge and competences

You will acquire basic knowledge of pedagogy, as well as in-depth knowledge of psychology, gerontology, and geriatrics; you will learn elements of special education, sociology, andragogy and social work, selected biological, psychological and cultural aspects of the functioning of the elderly in society, legal aspects of help and care for seniors, and the most important issues related to health education, medical news and safety of the elderly.

You will gain the ability to work with people of all ages, including doctors, psychologists and experts working with seniors.

You will learn the rules of creating and implementing national and international projects dedicated to the elderly.

In connection with the student mobility carried out under the Erasmus + program, it will be possible to complete some of the internships at a selected university or foreign institution.

Work for a graduate:

A graduate of 1st degree pedagogy in the field of senior education and care for the elderly will be prepared to work in various social security institutions, including social welfare homes, old people’s homes, state and private nursing homes in the country and abroad, sanatoriums, spas, foundations, as well as in institutions aimed at activating and educating seniors (such as senior academies, universities of the third age). The graduate will also be able to undertake tasks in the field of gerontological consultancy, as an animator of the social life of seniors, will be prepared to create and implement programs aimed at the elderly. In addition, the graduate will have the opportunity to work as a carer for the elderly in private seniors’ homes as part of an independent business.

You will gain knowledge, skills and social competences regarding psychosocial mechanisms of the formation of socially unacceptable behavior, the so-called pathological behavior. You will learn to diagnose, interpret, you will be able to plan help in terms of counteracting pathological behaviors or you will learn how to choose methods of effective counteracting social marginalization, you will learn to build cooperation networks in the life environment of children, adolescents and adults, and organize preventive, supportive and supportive activities for addicts from alcohol, drugs and work.
